Weekend fun -

This weekend was probably the first weekend where we actually tried to plan stuff to get to know our new city. Friday night we went downtown to a thing called Sablon nights. We were hoping thinking it was going to be a fun winterwonderland type deal. Of course, that is not exactly what it turned out to be. It was a basically a square in Brussels where all the stores stayed open late and tried to get business. For Brussels, stores don't stay open past early evening is a treat. We did find a really lovely chocolate store. They were giving away free chocolate shot samples and champagne. For dinner that night we had nachos and chocolate. ha.

Saturday night we went out to eat - charles got crappy shrimp he had to peel. They were even kind enough to leave the heads on them. My duck was amazing. After dinner, we went to an old school jazz hall (room more like) with a big velvet curtain background and listened to some Jazz. They, Chris Jones Experience, were actually pretty good. We didn't stay long as we are on bus schedules these days.

Sunday was spent at a war museum and relaxing.

Monday our stuff came from customs and we had an interesting grocery store experince. At this particular grocery store you fill out a questionnaire type sheet of what types of meat you want. And of course all the meat names were in French and there were beacoup choixs! I had the aforethought to look up with rib roast was in French so we got that right. We even got the full bird and italian sausage ok. The trouble occured when we tried to order hamburger meat. Seems simple enough, but what we ended up with was some kind of meat hash... we still don't really know what it is or how to prepare it. I brought the sheet with the names home so I can be better prepared next time. ;)

Ahh... Brussels!
